Campaign Highlights Most Powerful Press Ads of 2014

The most powerful press ads of the year have been highlighted by Campaign magazine in its annual.

A clever nautically themed John Lewis ad for Southampton was named the best local press ad of the year while the Sunday Times rich list featuring “fat cats” including Sir Richard Branson and Simon Cowell scooped the top prize for the nationals.

Government campaigns featured in both lists with a Department for Transport ad appearing in the nationals list and Public Health England and Scottish Government campaigns in the local press top 10.

Car manufacturers also featured heavily with Volkswagen and Fiat featuring in the nationals list and Citroen and Renault featuring in the local press list. Three retailers – John Lewis, Aldi and B&Q – had work featured in the local press list.

In December each year, Campaign magazine publishes its annual list of top tens from the year including national press ads, local press ads, radio ads, digital innovations and outdoor ads.

Separately, Newsworks has published a list of the top 10 ads in its creative showcase which have received the most views. Local Media Works, the marketing body for local media, also has a gallery showcasing strong creative work from local press titles.
