Telegraph Media Group Announces Initiative to Speed Up Mobile

Telegraph Media Group has announced a new open source project aimed at speeding up mobile internet.

The project, Accelerated Mobile Pages, will aim to speed up mobile web enabling stories from The Telegraph, and other sites, to load more quickly onto phones and tablets.

The technology will be open-sourced and companies such as Google, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and other digital news initiatives have also already signed on as partners.

The Telegraph product and technology team has been involved in developing this tool with Google. It aims to dramatically improve the performance of the open mobile web, giving readers an improved service, no matter what mobile device they are using.

Malcolm Coles, director of digital Media, TMG, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Google on the launch of AMP. It will improve The Telegraph reader’s experience and enhance our mobile pages which are rich with award-winning content.”

Alex Watson, head of product, TMG said: “Providing users faster ways to access the Telegraph has been one of the technology team’s priorities this year, and it’s been a fascinating for us to work with Google and see AMP develop. It promises to be really transformative when it launches.”
