Shortlist Announced for Royal Rota Photography Competition
The shortlist for the News Media Association’s Royal Rota photography competition is published today after a public vote to find the royal photography in the news media industry.
A weeklong public vote was held to find the best of 48 showcased photographs from national and local newspapers, agencies and freelance photographers.
The vote closed at 5pm yesterday and the three pictures to have received the most votes in each of three categories are listed below.
Best National Newspaper Rota Photo
- The Queen Attending The Order of the Garter (Dave Parker, Daily Mail)
- The Duchess of Cambridge at an ICAP Charity Day (Jeremy Selwyn, London Evening Standard)
- The Queen and Prince Harry (Julian Simmonds, The Telegraph)
Best Regional/Local Newspaper Rota Photo
- The Duchess of Cambridge at Princess Charlotte’s Christening (Adam Fairbrother, Lynn News)
- Duchess of Cambridge Plays Hockey at Her Former Prep School (Phillip Cannings, Newbury Weekly News)
- The Prince of Wales at a Cheese Factory (Gary Longbottom, The Yorkshire Post)
Best Picture Agency Rota Photo
- The Queen in Royal Carriage (Dominic Lipinski, Press Association)
- Prince George Looking in Pram at Princess Charlotte’s Christening (Chris Jackson, Getty)
- The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh (James Veysey, Camera Press)
The competition judging panel will now pick winners in each category as well as the overall competition winner who will scoop Best Overall Rota Photo.
The judging panel is:
- Nigel Atherton, Group Editor of the IPC Media photography portfolio (including Amateur Photographer, What Digital Camera and Photo Technique)
- Paul Jarrett, Wire Photo Agencies secretary
- Jeff Moore, The British Press Photographers’ Association chairman
- Lynne Anderson, NMA deputy chief executive
The new competition has been launched by the NMA to promote the outstanding work of photographers in the UK news media and the NMA’s media facilities services for members.
The NMA manages the Royal Rota on behalf of its members, allocating passes for the hundreds of Royal engagements undertaken by members of the Royal Family each year and ensuring that the material is pooled among members.
The winners, to be announced at the end of the month, will scoop a prize of vouchers for photography equipment.
