One Week Left to Enter Royal Rota Photography Competition

Photographers have just a week left to enter the News Media Association’s Royal Rota photography competition for member publishers which aims to showcase the outstanding news media photography.

Entries have been pouring in for this year’s competition ahead of the deadline of 12pm next Thursday (15 June). NMA member photographers and other members of the rota system are invited to submit their best photographs from Royal Rota engagements over the past year.

Submitted images will be showcased on the NMA’s website and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite images for the shortlist with the overall winners in each category picked by a panel of industry experts.

The categories are:

  • National Newspaper Rota Photo of the Year;
  • Regional/Local Newspaper Rota Photo of the Year;
  • Rota Picture Agency Rota Photo of the Year;
  • Overall Rota Photo of the Year;
  • This year, there is also a bonus category of the Best Election Photo.

The competition, which last year was won by the London Evening Standard’s Jeremy Selwyn, was launched to promote the outstanding work of photographers in the UK news media and the NMA’s media facilities services for members.

Only newspapers or agencies within the Royal Rota system – members of the NMA, WPA, Council of Photographic News Agencies or Independent Photographers Association are eligible to enter and the photos must have been taken at official rota engagements between April 2016 and May 2017.

This can include fixed points but the photos must have abided by the guidelines of the event. For more information please contact Jeff Almond at the NMA on jeff@newsmediauk.org.
