Nicky Morgan Appointed Culture Secretary
Nicky Morgan, MP for Loughborough, has been appointed Culture Secretary in last night’s Cabinet reshuffle.
Ms Morgan served as Education Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities from July 2014 until 14 July 2016.
During that time, she was the guest speaker at a lunch for the Newspaper Conference – the regional press lobby in Westminster.
She served as an Assistant Whip in the coalition government until her appointment as Economic Secretary to the Treasury in October 2013.
Ms Morgan served as Financial Secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Women from April until July 2014. She was elected Conservative MP for Loughborough in 2010.
The News Media Association is seeking a meeting with her.
An enormous privilege to take on this fabulous role – although I’m sad to move on from @CommonsTreasury which I have absolutely loved chairing. Thank you to my fellow Select Committee members & committee staff https://t.co/TjdXf0TbYz

Speaking outside Number 10 Downing Street yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson highlighted the importance of freedom of speech. Speaking about the British flag, he said: “Everyone knows the values that flag represents. It stands for freedom and free speech and habeas corpus and the rule of law and above all it stands for democracy.”
