Government Expects CMA To Use DMCC Act Tools To Level The Playing Field in Digital Markets
Responding to the government’s strategic steer to the Competition and Markets Authority, News Media Association chief executive Owen Meredith said: “The government has today set out its clear expectation that the Competition and Markets Authority should use all the tools at its disposal, including new powers from the Digital Markets Competition and Consumers Act, to tackle harms to consumers and businesses caused by a lack of competition in key markets such as the digital economy.
“We look forward to continuing to engage with the CMA and government to help create a new pro-growth regime for digital markets which levels the playing field between news publishers and the tech platforms, fostering true competition, UK economic growth, and consumer choice.”
