Mail Force: The Ukrainian Refugee Appeal
2022Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday and MailOnline joined forces in February 2022 to urge all their readers to give generously to the Ukrainian Refugee Appeal, operated by the Mail Force Charity.
The Mail Force appeal launched just days after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, and was kickstarted with a £500,000 donation from DMGT, the Mail’s parent company, at the personal request of Lord and Lady Rothermere. Since then, readers have sent in money in droves.
The record-breaking campaign which has so far topped £12 million, and which has the backing of then Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Leader of the Opposition, Keir Starmer, has become the fastest newspaper fundraiser in world history.
Mail Force is a registered charity that was initially set up to provide personal protective equipment (PPE) to brave NHS workers during the pandemic. Now it is helping Ukrainian families fleeing the Russian invasion.
Ted Verity, Editor of Mail Newspapers, said: “The immediate response and extraordinary generosity by Mail readers towards the people of Ukraine in their hour of need has been quite simply overwhelming and has resulted in this refugee appeal becoming the fastest newspaper fundraiser in world history. We will ensure every penny of the campaign money, now being collected by the Mail Force charity, is being passed to the aid organisations helping with this emergency crisis.”
