Local Press Publishers Launch Newspaper Titles

Tindle Newspapers has announced the launch of four new titles for London – the Plumstead Mercury, Woolwich Mercury, Catford Mercury and Abbey Wood & Thamesmead Mercury – while Newsquest has announced the launch of the paid-for Wilmslow Guardian this week.

The Newsquest title is latest addition to the publisher’s Guardian series in Cheshire, which also includes the Knutsford Guardian, Northwich Guardian and the Crewe and Nantwich Guardian. The first edition of the new title will be published on Wednesday (20 May).

Tindle Newspaper’s new titles will cover the south east of London. Karen Sheppard, managing director of the South London Press and joint managing director of Tindle’s London Weekly News Group said the new papers would be welcomed by the people of South London and congratulated the staff involved.

The South London Press and Mercury Series form part of the London Weekly News Group, part of the Tindle Newspaper Group. In total the LWN has launched eight new papers since November 2014.

Hannah Walker, editor in chief of the South London Press and Mercury Series, added: “The areas we are launching into have needed their very own local papers for some time and we are delighted to fill the gap.”

The London Weekly News Group, with a total of 38 titles, now has a weekly circulation of around 300,000 and a readership nearing one million in Greater London, Tindle said in a press release.
