NMA Welcomes Court of Protection Pilot Extension

The Court of Protection pilot, opening up the court to the press and public, has been extended until summer next year.

The transparency pilot started in January and will now  continue until 31 August 2017, in line with the forthcoming case management pilot.

The extension will allow to pilot to be further monitored as more cases go through it and allow the changes in practice to fully bed in.

The NMA and members strongly advocated opening up the Court of Protection, have given feedback to the Ministry of Justice and welcomed this extension.

Amendments to the Practice Direction extending the end date and detaching the pilot order as an annex have now been published online. The latest pilot order is now published as a separate document on the same page.

Meanwhile, the pilot for filming sentencing remarks in Crown courts has commenced. It was announced in March.
