Film Highlights Role of Journalism in Lance Armstrong Revelations
News UK hosted an event to mark the release of feature film The Program which highlights crucial role of newspaper journalism in exposing cyclist Lance Armstrong as a drugs cheat.
The Sunday Times chief sports writer David Walsh was in conversation with The Sunday Times film critic Camilla Long in an @News event on Tuesday.
He talked about 13 year investigation into Lance Armstrong, which culminated in Mr Walsh proving that Mr Armstrong was using banned substances to improve his performance, leading to the rider being stripped of all his titles.
Mr Walsh told the News UK audience of his transformation from “outcast to dogged journalist” in the perception of his role in Mr Armstrong’s downfall.
Talking about changes to the sport since the revelations about Mr Armstrong, Mr Walsh said: “A lot of improvements in cycling have been made. It’s more serious about testing.”
