News Media Royal Photography Showcase to Go Live Next Week

A showcase of the best of the news media industry’s royal photography is to go live for a public vote next week.

Nearly 200 photographs from national and local newspapers, agencies and freelance photographers have been put forward for the News Media Association’s Royal Rota photography competition.

Next week, a showcase of the longlist will go live in the Royal Rota section of the NMA website and members of the public will have a week to view the images and vote for their favourite picture.

Judges from the industry will then assess the shortlist to come up with the winners in each of the four categories who will win a prize of vouchers for photography equipment:

  • National Newspaper Rota Photo of the Year
  • Regional/Local Newspaper Rota Photo of the Year
  • Rota Picture Agency Rota Photo of the Year
  • Overall Rota Photo of the Year

The images are taken from news media titles’ coverage of Royal Rota engagements across the UK from the past year.

The NMA manages the Royal Rota on behalf of its members, allocating passes for the hundreds of Royal engagements undertaken by members of the Royal Family each year and ensuring that the material is pooled among members.

Only newspapers or agencies within the Royal Rota system – members of the NMA, WPA, Council of Photographic News Agencies or Independent Photographers Association are eligible to enter the competition and that the photos must have been taken at official rota engagements.

The new competition has been launched by the NMA to promote the outstanding work of photographers in the UK news media and the NMA’s media facilities services for members.
