The Camden New Journal

In Our Own Words

2023

The Camden New Journal’s special edition to mark International Women’s Day 2023 was written entirely by women journalists for the first time. Richard Osley, editor of the Journal, was taken over for the day by assistant editor, Anna Lamche.

This powerful initative shines a spotlight on women’s voices and stories that are “still not being heard”, with the front page demanding more must be done for women’s rights. Speaking about the edition, Anna Lamche said: “Having women in positions of power in a system that continues to perpetuate social and economic violence against less fortunate women does not constitute real progress.

“Class must feature in any meaningful discussion about women’s rights, and true diversity and empowerment can only be achieved when it is accompanied by wide-reaching social and economic change.

“In Camden, that starts with offering women better pay in secure, flexible work, as well as education and training opportunities and affordable childcare and housing.”

The edition was also edited by journalists Frankie Lister-Fell, Izzy Rowley and Charlotte Chambers.
